Last weekend 69 Delta Brisbane and Delta Gold Coast gymnasts, chaperones and coaches headed off on the 2017 Delta Gymnastics Cairns Open Tour. This year, the tour was open to gymnasts from levels 4-8 and was a fantastic opportunity to build the Delta Spirit, meet teammates from all three Delta Clubs and perform in competition away from home (as well as being LOTS of fun!).
Gymnastics tours are an integral component of the Delta Aspire Program and a wonderful opportunity for our girls. Whilst on tour gymnasts have fun travelling as a team, experience training and competing in a tour environment, support their team mates at competition and fit in some exciting sightseeing as well!
It certainly was a busy, fun-filled trip for our Tourers in Cairns. See all the action below!
Day 1 – Friday 16th June 2017
Barron Valley we are on our way!! 68 excited gymnasts, chaperones and coaches are about to board our flight to Cairns for the Macca Team Challenge competition. We are looking forward to a jam packed 4 days of fun!
Day 2 – Saturday 17th June 2017
We kicked off our day with an early breaky at the hotel, followed by a trip to the Cairns Esplanade for a dip in the lagoon and some fun team building activities. Our teams participated in the trick photography challenge and a $5.00 team shop at the local markets to see who could get the best value for money! We were pretty impressed with our little bargain hunters who came away with items such as, Aussie rhyming loo roll, a flipping kangaroo, post cards and even a t-shirt, just to name a few. We then headed back to our accommodation for lunch and some free time relaxing by the pool or in our rooms before our Level 6 gymnasts took to the floor at the Macca Team Challenge, hosted by Barron Valley Gymnastics. The girls had a great time competing and we loved hearing the support between our three clubs. After the comp we enjoyed a pizza dinner and ice block thanks to the wonderful BV committee. We finished off the day with some more games in the gym before heading to bed, ready for another jam packed day tomorrow!!
Day 3 – Sunday 18th June 2017
What a day we've had! We were up bright and early this morning for our second day of competition. Our Level 4, 5, 7 & 8 gymnasts took to the floor and performed beautifully out there. Following a tasty BBQ lunch we headed to the Cairns Cable Ski Park where we had a blast on the cable ski and inflatable obstacle course! After dinner we had a quick lip sync battle before bed. Tomorrow we are up super early for our last day of fun before heading home in the afternoon.
Day 4 – Monday 19th June 2017
That's a wrap on the 2017 Cairns Open Tour & we haven’t wasted a minute of our 4 days! Today we were up bright and early for breaky, packed our bags and headed to the wharf where we chartered the S.S Delta to Fitzroy Island. On the island we had fun snorkelling, swimming, kayaking and even tried some stand up paddle boarding. We were also treated to a glass bottom boat ride around the reef and some groups were lucky enough to spot a few turtles swimming around. After our picnic lunch we boarded the boat and headed back to land where we made our way to the airport to start the journey home.
We hope you've had a wonderful tour girls and enjoyed the experience whilst getting to know so many new friends! Team Delta you rock!
Until next time...
Thank you to our wonderful Delta Coaches and Chaperones for your help over the last 4 days. We couldn’t do it without out and hope you enjoyed the experience! Special thanks to Lauren for organising such a fun tour for our Delta Brisbane and Gold Coast Aspire gymnasts! Sounds like everyone had a blast!
