Last week 52 gymnasts from Level 7 to Junior International, Delta dads and our Aspire Coaches, put on their camping gear and headed to Canungra for the 2020 Delta Gymnastics Spirit Camp!
A dad and daughter trip filled with teamwork, team building, laughter and fun, Spirit Camp kicks off the year for our Aspire Competitive gymnasts, building the team and preparing them for the 2020 competition season.
As always, Spirit Camp was jam packed with adventure, beginning with the building of
as the girls and dad’s pitched tents for the two night stay.
The afternoon was spent brushing up on our cricket and soccer skills followed by a swim (or rather a paddle) in the creek to cool off. A Mexican fiesta for dinner, led to an evening of funny stories (dad’s dobbing in their daughters and girls telling tales about their dads!) before calling it a night.
Day two our campers woke to a breakky of bacon and eggs, before the annual Dads Touch Footy game. Our gymnasts helped our Dad’s warm up (a lesson learnt after last year’s game!) with the traditional Delta Warm-Up out on the grass, ensuring their muscles were ready for action. We cheered from the sideline as the Dad’s impressed with their skills, teamwork and commitment to the game – needless to say there were a few sore bodies on Saturday!
Following morning tea we had a few rounds of Tug- of – War where gymnasts versed gymnasts, gymnasts versed coaches and Dad’s versed Dad’s! Lots of fun and smiling faces. After lunch the girls performed their team skits demonstrating their choreography, aerobics and acting talents for us all.
After some free time the girls undertook Delta’s Tough Mudder Course. They were faced with mud, sand, creeks, rocks, brain teasers and rope tasks that required determination, guts, teamwork and resilience from our gymnasts … and they did not disappoint!
A swim in the creek was in order to recover (and clean off) before a BBQ dinner and star performances as our Delta Dad’s showcased their daughter’s floor routine (synchronised with their daughter) for the enthusiastic audience. As you can imagine, there was laughter all round for this one – and some very impressive gym dad skills! Thanks Dads for being such champions!
The night finished off with toasting marshmallows around the camp fire and a dance party lead by our incredible Level 9 – 10 seniors.
Pancakes and pack ups were in order first up on Saturday morning and we finished off a wonderful Spirit Camp.
Spirit Camp is a fantastic chance for our Dad’s to get involved in their daughter’s gymnastics life. The girls embrace the opportunity to develop their leadership skills while having fun and building team spirit in a different setting.
It’s always a highlight on the Delta Aspire Calendar and 2020 certainly was a Spirit Camp to remember!
