Who’s ready for a roaring great time with our Dinosaur theme? Being a big, strong dinosaur – even for just a class – allows us to explore some great powerful play at gymnastics.

Big strong dinosaurs make for great visual cues for our Jnr GymKids to explore body awareness, gymnastics shapes (in particular wide shapes) and skills. Read more on sensory processing and why proprioception is so important for children here!

The long tailed Brontosaurus will encourage beautiful knee scale balances as children extend their back leg (or should we say, their tail!). Transferring weight evenly to three points of balance in a knee scale is very challenging indeed! When children are extending their long dinosaur tail (back leg) to complete this skill, they are relying on proprioceptive feedback (knowing where their limbs are without having to look), which supports and builds their body awareness and coordination.

Children will hold super strong tuck shapes and make sure their dinosaur eggs won’t crack during our tap tap tucks!

RAAAAGHH!!!!! Our roaring T-Rex will put some extra oomph into motorbike landings (watch how the T-Rex’s claws help this landing position as well!) and children will play with the sensory feedback from the spikey Stegosaurus backs to help shape their front support.

Watch out for those flying Pterodactyls in the gym during this theme!

It’s over half way through the year and our little ones are growing and developing so much!

We are reinforcing the names for their movements with our little Explorers, getting them to really remember what a Motorbike landing, for example, is.  We use rhymes and songs with our toddlers to help reinforce their start shapes and different activities.

Our Movers are getting more confident in the second half of the year which is wonderful to witness. It’s so great to see our helpers so involved in their children’s movement.  Studies show parents involvement and active engagement in movement in the early years, helps creates lifelong positive attitudes in their children. So, great job to our parents as well as our little moving Movers!  We love that you are moving, learning and growing together in the gym! (Read more on why our helpers are so important here).

Our Groovers are definitely getting older & wiser and learning some great gymnastics techniques as they play with new skills and group time. The value of purposeful play is so evident with these amazing kids and really building their independence as they get ready to take on school next year!

We hope you love the powerful play of our dinosaur theme!

See you in the gym Dino’s!
