  • First and Final Competition for 2020!
Our Covid Classic Competition was held at our Kedron venue last weekend and saw gymnasts from Level 1 through to Georgia Godwin at Senior International compete! There was lots of excitement as the girls pulled on their Delta competition leotard, many for the first time; and took to the floor to perform in front of the judges, their teammates and family!  Friday night saw our Development 3, Level 5 - 10 and International gymnasts perform and demonstrate the skills they have been working hard to master since their return from our closure. Lots of upgrades were performed for the first time in a competition setting and we loved hearing the team spirit across the gym! We also said goodbye to two incredible leaders- Chloe and Siena. Both girls have decided to hang up their guards for the last time and finished with a great hit on the competition floor. Congratulations on your wonderful gymnastics careers girls, we can't wait to see where the wind takes you next. See you soon! On Saturday afternoon our inaugral Team Excel Competition kicked off for the very first time! Our new venue leotards shone brightly out on the floor and it was so exciting to see the girls competing their own floor routines and some cool new skills from the Excel code of points. A highlight on Saturday evening was the final session, where our Team Excel Diamond gymnasts versed two Coaches teams - Kedron and Clayfield! Turns out many of our Coaches have still got it! Congratulations to the Clayfield Coaches team who took out first place!

What is Team Excel?

At Delta, rather than having a system designed for the 1 in 10 000 (who make it to the Olympics), we wanted to create a structure that caters for all girls that love doing gymnastics, being strong, fit & healthy; learning skills, performing and being part of a team. This Team Excel is an inclusive program and allows girls of varying abilities to become the best they can and love their sport. It allows all levels and training hours to learn a broad range of skills, progress through the gymnastics curriculum and compete both individually and as a team to achieve a team result at exciting competitions. Think American College gymnastics...not sure what that looks like? Here's a sneak peek - click here! How does this new Program work?         The Team Excel structure is Optional based which means gymnasts can choose skills that ‘suit’ their ability. If your flexibility is not great, the current system says you MUST be able to do skills that require flexibility, in the Team Excel system the requirement for example is a leap/jump instead of a leap or a leap requiring less split, thus allowing the gymnast to compete something she is great at, rather than something she is struggling with due to the morphology of her body.  The Team Excel program allows coaches & gymnasts to choose skills that compliment the gymnast and allow them to show off what they can do well, not what they can’t do. Within the Team Excel program there are three divisions that partly correlate with the current levels; Ruby, Sapphire and Diamond.  A lastly, on Sunday we saw our littlest Level 1, 2 and 3 gymnasts strut their stuff. They all did a fantastic job, some competing for the very first time ever! We loved seeing so many smiling, confident performances from our girls. Did you spot the Covid Safe reminder on our medals? Ha ha ha, we couldn't resist! We are so proud of each and every gymnast. Not only did the girls perform beautifully, their team spirit and support of each other was incredible. Below are some of the fantastic photos from across the weekend.  Until next year...train hard!
