Wavell Height resident Maddy Thompson has reflected on her monumental 2018 which saw her represent the Australian Level 10 Team at the New Zealand Championships.
The Delta Gymnastics product placed second overall an din the apparatus finals also won gold on bars.
The medal-winning effort was even more special for Thompson, given she had made the corresponding national team in 2017, only to withdraw after sustaining an ankle injury.
“It was incredible. Words cannot describe how happy I am.” Thompson said.
“It was so surreal and such an incredible experience putting on the (Australian) leotard and being there in that environment.
It all paid off.”
Thompson’s mentor at Delta has been Commonwealth Games medalist Georgia Godwin, who Thompson has long admired and learned from.
But the Clayfield College school leaver has her own fan club of juniors who look up to her on the floor at Delta.
“For now I am going to concentrate on myself, on coaching,” the Quest Community Sports Star Finalist said.
“I want to focus on my passion to help the younger kids and give them the best opportunity they can and to perhaps do what I have done.”
