What happens now competition season is over?
For our Aspire Performance and Competitive Gymnasts, competition season is over and it is time to head back into the gym and start focussing on strength and fitness.  This will include working on our Bar fitness and basics (kips, kip to handstands, clear hip circles) so when the time comes to start working on more new skills, these will come a little easier for the girls. Coaches are looking at each girl to see where they are at and what they need to work and focus on for the year ahead.  It’s very important for the girls to understand this is a very crucial time for their development for next year - so continued attendance at training is very important in term 4. For the girls moving into senior levels next year, the 2018 competition season will start a lot earlier that what they are used to!  Before too long it will be the beginning of the year, so we are working super hard in the gym so these girls are fully prepared and ready to go for the first round of events. We are not yet talking about what levels the girls will be in next year.  Sometimes, while a gymnasts may be on track to move to the next level, they may experience a small set back, or a skill which takes a little longer to learn - and we never want to push gymnasts when they are not ready.  Instead we want them to develop at their own pace and be happy, so will talk levels closer to the time (around 6 weeks out from the first competition for 2018). I am excited to see what these next few months bring and look forward to lots of fun and learning in the gym! See you in the gym! Kim Whitehead Aspire Co-ordinator
