It’s school holiday time! As winter is upon us and the weather is cooler, keeping your kids active during the school break can be tricky. Each year in Australia, however, studies show an increase in childhood obesity.
If kids learn to be active early & enjoy movement and exercise now, it will stay with them throughout adulthood as well!
So, we have put together a list of 5 fun ways to keep your family active and moving even with the colder weather!
Keep Moving – Top 5!
- Ice Skating
Rug up and hit the local ice skating rink with your kids. Great fun, a fantastic work out and a true winter experience for the whole family! (and watch how great your little gymnast’s balance really is!) Don’t forget to pack some gloves! - Freeze
Who doesn’t love a dance off – winter style!? Crank up the music and dance like no-one is watching. Be sure to freeze when the music stops. Gets your heart pumping and great for a laugh with your kids! - Hunt for Treasure
Younger kids love a treasure hunt (big kids and parents do too)! Make a treasure map with fun winter clues to find the prize, hide the treasure outside in the garden, or inside on cooler days and the hunt begins! The prize can be any little treat (stickers are great for young ones), the fun and excitement is finding the treasure! - Gymnastics Holiday Clinics
Being an indoor sport – gymnastics is the perfect activity year round! Our Holiday Clinics run every school break and offer school age kids the chance to get active in the gym, while having fun meeting new friends and coaches! (Delta & Barron Valley’s normal classes also continue throughout the school holidays, keeping your children busy and on the move!) - Play Play Play
Rug up and hit the local park and playground. Run off the energy, practice climbing and balancing and enjoy the fresh air. Grab a coffee & enjoy the outdoors!
So many fun and active ways to get kids moving, connect with your kids and get in some exercise for yourself at the same time! Of course, being winter – why not also allow some time to bunker down at home with a hot chocolate and movie afternoon!
Enjoy your winter break!
