  • Moving Fast & Slow at Jnr Gym Kids
Our Jnr Gym Kids programs are jammed packed full of learning & fun and our next theme is no different as we play with fast and slow! In gymnastics, some skills need to go FAST and need momentumlike a backward roll. While others, like balancing on a beam, need to go SLOW! By relating speed to animals children know (turtles and tigers) we will have lots of fun playing with the contrast of speed at Jnr Gym Kids. Using the turtle has our little ones thinking about how to slow things down & work on their technique a little.  In contrast, we’ll have fun moving fast like a tiger through our circuits and running away from the big ball. Going fast feels good and is actually easier than slow for young children as momentum takes over the job our sense of balance normally does for us (like riding a bike). Going fast is also lots of fun and helps us develop things like leg drive and fast motor planning (you'll see this in some of our fast jumping activities during this theme!) Moving slowly is actually much tougher for our under 5's. When we move slowly, we rely on our balance to keep us steady, stable, and upright.  Going slow gives the brain time to process the balance & movement information it’s receiving and allows children to refine & plan their movement with more deliberate control of their bodies. Another great reason why gymnastics grows children’s brains & bodies!   So have fun moving with us in our fast and slow theme. We can't wait to see our Jnr Gym Kids learn to change and control pace!
