  • New Australian Women’s Gymnastics Team Coach Visits Delta!
Last night, Delta gymnasts at our Kedron venue were excited to have newly appointed National Women’s Gymnastics Team Coach, Mihai Brestyan attend training! Mihai Brestyan is a world renowned and highly successful coach charged with leading the strategic direction for Australian women’s gymnastics to build continued success internationally.  He has been named USAG Coach of the Year three times and has an incredible international track record coaching gymnasts to World Championship and Olympic success.  Born in Romania, Mihai and his wife are based in the US and owner/coaches of Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club. Brestyan is also the long term coach of US superstar Aly Raisman, who has medalled at 3 Olympic Games and who, in 2016 was a member of the Final Five US Olympic gold medal winning women’s gymnastics team!  Aly also won the silver all-round medal and was silver medallist on floor at the Rio Olympics. Following his appointment last week as Australian National Team Coach, Brestyan is travelling Australia to check in with the current international level athletes.  During his trip to Delta Brisbane he spent time checking out our program and with our Aspire international gymnasts, including World Cup silver medallist Georgia Godwin! The Delta Aspire Competitive stream currently has over 60 gymnasts training level 7-10, with three international level gymnasts training in the program.  In the last year, two of our senior international gymnasts, Georgia Godwin and Emi Watterson have both represented Australia at international events and both girls will be vying for spots on the Australian Team at the 2017 World Championships in Montreal and at next year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. We know Mihai will be an incredible asset to Australian gymnastics and we look forward to him visiting Delta and seeing our amazing gymnasts in action again soon!
