  • PIRATES & MERMAIDS: SPLASH & LUNGE
Arrrrgh me hearties!  It’s the pirate (& mermaid life) at Jnr Gym Kids! We are so excited to jump into our next theme as we focus on squeezing our legs together (with our mermaid tails) and transferring weight as we balance into our lunge activities!

Pirates and Mermaids at Junior GymKids

Lunging into a sword ‘swish’ is a great way for children to practice weight transfer.  This is a fantastic activity to prepare for our handstands and cartwheels, and also just great for good balance & body management. Children will use their splashing mermaid tails as a cue to practice holding their legs together during their gymnastics skills. They will lift those tails high to explore the shoulder stand and work on core stability as they row their boats to shore! Keep an eye out for pirate treasure and watch our little ones walk the plank during this fun theme! Playing our pirate games is where the fun really begins! Games allow our Jnr GymKids to remember a series of instructions.  They give them the opportunity to play with controlling (or stopping) their movement, while in an excited state. This supports REGULATION, which is a vital tool of development & school readiness. So much fun, learning and development packed into this swashbuckling theme! See you in the gym!
