It’s time for our Jnr GymKids to explore their colours with our next, Rainbow theme! In this theme we will be exploring a wide range of movement activities incorporating colour recognition and language.
Learning colours coincides with children’s cognitive development and their ability to differentiate colours normally begins to take shape at 18 months. This is also the same time the child will begin to notice the differences and similarities between textures, sizes and shapes. Although they can tell the differences, it takes a much longer time for kids to fully understand the different colours and name them. Most children are able to name one colour by the time they are 3 years old. We know children all develop at their own pace and at Jnr GymKids we do lots and lots of repetition and practice!
Color Recognition and Language with Rainbows!
While many of our under 5’s already know a lot of colours, we will be challenging their colour recognition and language, layered with movement challenges and cognitive challenges.
We will be using our lovely rainbow arc shape to help children focus on arching their core, chest and back. This shape is another important one in gymnastics, especially for our cartwheel development and our bars swing and stop shaping.
Of course we will have a fun game in play during our gymnastics class. Rainbow Run is great for listening, colour recognition, taking turns and remembering when and where to stop! There is lots to think about in this game as we challenge the children’s auditory awareness, direction and regulation.
We will certainly be busy as we jump, cartwheel, rainbow roll, climb and swing our way through rainbow theme! Who remembers their rainbow song?
Red and yellow and pink and green,
purple and orange and blue…
I can sing a rainbow
sing a rainbow
sing a rainbow too…
Thanks for moving with us at Jnr Gym Kids!
