  • 2019 Delta Gymnastics Spirit Camp
Last week 41 gymnasts from Level 7 to Junior International, 19 Delta dads and 5 Aspire Coaches, put on their camping gear and headed to Lake Catharaba for the 2019 Delta Gymnastics Spirit Camp! A dad and daughter trip filled with teamwork, team building, laughter and fun, Spirit Camp kicks off the year for our Aspire Competitive gymnasts, building the team and preparing them for the 2019 competition season. As always, Spirit Camp was jam packed with adventure, beginning with the building of tent city as the girls and dad’s pitched tents for the two night stay. A swim in the lake and a Mexican fiesta for dinner, led to a evening of funny stories (dad’s dobbing in their daughters and girls telling tales about their dads!), spotlight and star gazing before calling it a night. Day two our campers woke to a breaky of bacon and eggs, before splitting into 4 groups for some soccer, volleyball & badminton, yoga by the lake and preparation & rehearsal of a group performance (skit). The girls had some free time over lunch before they undertook Delta’s Tough Mudder Course. Four kilometres of mud, sand, creeks, lakes and rope tasks required determination, guts, teamwork and resilience from our gymnasts … and they did not disappoint! A swim (and float) in the lake was in order to recover (and clean off) before a bbq dinner and star performances as our Delta Dad’s showcased their daughter’s floor routine (synchronised with their daughter) for the enthusiastic audience. As you can imagine, there was laughter all round for this one - and some very impressive gym dad skills! Thanks Dads for being such champions! The night finished off with toasting marshmallows around the camp fire before another early start. Pancakes and pack ups were in order first up and we finished off a fantastic Spirit Camp with our 4 team performances rehearsed the previous day.  We definitely have some future movie stars in our midst... (be sure to keep an eye out for these girls soon!) Spirit Camp is a fantastic chance for our Dad’s to get involved in their daughter’s gymnastics life. The girls embrace the opportunity to develop their leadership skills while having fun and building team spirit in a different setting. It’s always a highlight on the Delta Aspire Calendar and 2019 certainly was a Spirit Camp to remember! Check out all of the action here:
