  • Body Awareness and Gymnastics
Gymnastics helps develop a strong sense of body awareness by working on areas such as balance, switching on muscles (proprioceptive sense), sensory integration, motor planning & laterality (our ‘sides’).  At Delta Jnr Gym Kids, we get our under 5's started straight away on that foundational body awareness, as children move, learn and grow in the gym. Although we’ve always known it, science continues to reveal how healthy, childhood development depends on rich movement experiences in our early preschool years. Movement is the power behind learning. Supporting our brain/body connection through movement enhances learning and participating in life to our full potential.  The confidence and self-esteem, that come hand in hand is a great bonus! Helping kids grow up is our mission at Delta.  As we grow we are forming images or maps in our brain of our world and ourselves. Wiring up brain & body, working out where we begin and end and figuring out how to fluently respond to our world, all happens through movement! At Jnr Gym Kids, we get the year moving with our Body, Hands & Feet Theme!  A great theme to kick off with, body awareness is the child’s first step toward developing an idea of who they are and what they are capable of and involves almost every aspect of a child’s learning. What will we focus on in our Body, Hands & Feet classes?

Welcome into the gym! We start the year focussing on getting to know our coaches & our gym! We’ll start establishing our class routines, which will really support our Jnr Gym Kids learning! Body awareness! We will have fun focussing on our hands & feet, transferring weight in our bunny hops, when we are hanging and when we land. Gymnastic shapes! Who remembers motor bike? We will learn and revisit our safe landings, safety beam catch and stopping on the trampoline. Toot Toot Train! To encourage stopping and listening when directed by our coach, we will move around the gym safely in our group trains. We can't wait to get started and help our Jnr Gym Kids become more body aware!  Check out some of our great tips for preparing your pre-schooler for gymnastics here! See you in the gym!
