  • Physical Ability & Development (or PAD)!

Parents of our Aspire gymnasts, may have heard of our PAD Testing program. PAD testing is a key measure of gymnasts’ physical ability and development and Delta Aspire gymnasts from level 1 though to Senior International undertake PAD testing in the gym three times a year.

So what is PAD testing?

PAD stands for physical, ability and development. The test itself is designed to monitor gymnasts strength, flexibility and skill development. By measuring this information over the year, coaches are given valuable insight into the gymnasts fitness levels, as well as gaining integral information for setting goals for their gymnasts; and designing programs and preparation to accelerate learning and improvement.

There are three components to PAD testing, looking at strength, flexibility and skill activities:

  1. Skill Specific – this component measures the core skills required for all high level gymnastics.  Skills included are Wall Handstand, Split Handstand, and Press Handstand.
  2. Flexibility this component measures hip, shoulder, hamstring & calf flexibility.
  3. Strength – this component measures a combination of the strength and endurance of the prevailing body actions, required for artistic gymnastics.

Around three weeks after the completion of the PAD Test, parents are provided with a report with the results of the test. The PAD report also includes a snapshot of  gymnasts training behaviours, to assist with their overall growth and development in the gym. Parents are of course welcome to discuss any questions about PAD Test results with our Delta Team Leaders at each venue.

For our Aspire Foundations gymnasts, PAD Testing occurs during the girls normal class time in the 1st session of the week. Anything not tested the 1st session will be tested the 2nd lesson of the week. For our Performance and Competitive gymnasts, there are scheduled PAD testing days throughout the year. You can find all of the PAD Testing dates in your Aspire Parent Handbook.

Good luck to all gymnasts completing their PAD Tests – we know how hard you are working and love seeing your improvements! We love our role in helping build strong, active, healthy and confident kids.

Stay strong,  be fierce!
