Let's focus on our BV Gym Kids!  It is so great to see so many happy, active kids in the gym each day up  here in Cairns!  Check out the below from Bede, about what our Gym Kids are focusing on in the gym in March!!

Fortnightly Program Focus

At the moment our BV Gym Kids are really focusing on their leg form! During classes, the coaches will be asking the gymnasts lots of questions like "Were those they straightest legs you could get?"or "Who's legs are together?"

Being able to control one's body is an extremely important part of any sport. This control starts early in gymnastics with children learning to squeeze their legs together and feel their legs nice and straight.  Once the gymnasts begin to understand how to control their body, then they can start to develop into harder and more technical skills!

When watching the Winter Olympics, or the gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games next month - try to notice the athletes leg form!  Great leg form can be the difference between a Gold medal and not making it to the podium.

Go BV Gym Kids - I can't wait to see those amazing straight, glued together legs!

Monthly Coaching Focus

During our lessons at Barron Valley, we aren't just teaching gymnastics.  This month, we have challenged our coaches to show us and their gymnasts more than just learning gymnastics. We have complete faith that every day we are teaching the gymnasts many life skills, in the things we do and the ways that we interact with them - when we are encouraging them to take that forward roll over the bar for the first time, or when we are genuinely excited that it’s their birthday this week, or that they saw snow monkeys in their holiday in Japan!

We are also explaining to our Gym Kids that the big kids they see in the gym got to where they are by working and trying really hard when they were little too (from little things big things grow!). All of these are just small examples of coaches not only teaching gymnastics skills, but how these amazing kids can interact with the world.  What will your children learn from us this month, and what will we learn from them?

See you in the gym, Bede
